The Mentalist is officially saying goodbye to Wayne Rigsby and Grace Van Pelt.

Series regulars Owain Yeoman and Amanda Righetti will make their final appearances on Sunday’s episode of the CBS drama, TVGuide.com has learned.

“It’s a very exciting opportunity, I think, for fans to say their goodbyes to two beloved characters,” Yeoman tells TVGuide.com about the episode. “It’s a very dynamic episode. I think our show pushed the envelope. … It felt very different than what we’ve done.”

Adds Yeoman: “I’ll be shedding a little tear on Sunday saying goodbye to my long-term buddy Wayne Rigsby.”

The Mentalist star Amanda Righetti is taking a trip to Chicago.

I can exclusively reveal that the actress will be guest starring as a pediatrician on upcoming crossover episodes of Chicago Fire and Chicago P.D.

A source tells me there’s even been some chatter about a Righetti heading up an ensemble cast for another series, Chicago M.D., about a Windy City hospital. While another source says there are no plans for a doctors-based show, we can’t help but think it’s a great idea. Chicago Fire and Chicago P.D. have been mega-successes for NBC and series creator Dick Wolf, so why not expand the franchise?

What have you found challenging about juggling work and new motherhood?
The list of challenges you experience as a new mother can be endless, and when you add work to the mix it can become very overwhelming. I am amazed at how this unknown motherly instinct kicked in and taught me how to compartmentalize and manage my time more efficiently. That being said, I also can’t get ahead of myself and think of all the things that need to be done inside of each week, so I just try to take it one day at a time, one task at a time.

How do you feel about raising your son, Knox (almost 1), in Hollywood?
Hollywood is a very different place from where I was raised. The town I grew up in [near Las Vegas, NV] was very small, and things were simpler. It was the kind of place where my parents would let my friends and me disappear on our bikes all day as long as we were home in time for dinner. That kind of freedom in a large city can be a much bigger risk for a child now. Then again, any generation born before the ‘90s will probably tell you things are a lot different now than they were back then…

What’s your favorite, perhaps unexpected moment as a mom so far?
The unexpected empowerment that only a woman who has become a mother knows, and the unfailing love for my child that brings unspeakable joy.

Amanda Righetti, who plays special agent Grace Van Pelt on the CBS drama The Mentalist, has confirmed her exit.

“I feel like the time is probably right,” Righetti tells TVLine. “It’s the end of one thing but the beginning of something new.”

The actress, who has been with the procedural since the pilot episode, will be exiting alongside onscreen love interest Owain Yeoman (Wayne Rigsby). Their departure is set for the end of this season, but as for how or why those two will be written off, Righetti doesn’t have a clue.

“It keeps changing,” she tells the site. “It’s been a little bit of a fly-by-the-seat-of-our-pants season. I think it was sort of an unexpected turn for the writers too, to have the show kind of be reworked this season. So everybody’s kind of trying to figure it out. And [they're] probably keeping it close to the vest so it comes as a surprise to everyone that is watching.”

Of course, everyone is waiting with bated breath for this Sunday’s big Red John episode and the aftermath, a spectacle that Righetti reveals will include both Van Pelt and Risby. The Dec. 1 episode will include a two-year time jump, and we’ll find the whole gang in a very different place.

“Basically, they have their own private security company,” Righetti says. “So we sort of are outsourced and freelanced with the FBI, and that’s how we fit in.”

When Yeoman and Righetti’s departure was first reported back in August, series creator Bruno Heller wouldn’t say much on the matter, expect that season six was sure to be a “dramatic and game changing season and anything can happen.”

CBS has yet to respond to our request for comment on their exits.
